Have you ever visited a lava tube? I hadn't, but thought it sounded really cool,
so Cueva de los Verdes was a must see for me while in Lanzarote!

This cave is part of a lava tube created about 5000 years ago from the eruptions of the volcano Monte Corona. I have realized on these trips to Tenerife and Lanzarote that I know very little about volcanoes and I think it's incredible how this long tunnel was created by more liquid lava running under more solid lava.
It is amazing to be able to enter such a truly beautiful place.

The whole tube/tunnel is about 6 km. long from the volcano to the coast, and it goes on under water for another 1,5 km. In the 1960's 2 km. of the cave were illuminated and opened to tourists.
The cave was used by the locals for protection against pirates and legends say the locals stayed
in there for a good two months while the pirates were raving around the island.

There is a concert hall in the cave, offering classical music concerts a couple times per year.
I can only imagine how special it must be to hear a concert in there.
The last stop on the guided tour is this incredible opening with the most perfect structures.
It's almost as if it is a mirror. Incredible isn't it?
There is a great optical illusion somewhere in the cave, and I have thought a lot about whether revealing it or not. Lets just say that there is a big surprise in there somewhere, and it gives the visit a little extra.
Only the Spanish would think to put a concert hall in a cave. And that's what makes them great!
SvarSlettI've been in a cave too...but it was smaller and kinda claustrophobic.
Haha, it's quite cool use of the space! This cave was quite wide and open I would say, although some places you needed to watch your head.
SlettI can clearly imagine concerts being held in there...pure awesomeness.
SvarSlettI think so too!
SlettAnother place added to the list ;)
SvarSlettHow great, Awadh :)
